U.S. Senator Ben Sasse released the following statement after the former editor of Apple Daily was arrested because of his work at the pro-democracy newspaper.
“Chairman Xi is a coward — too afraid of what might happen if a pro-democracy newspaper tells the truth about his Communist Party. We have a duty to shine a light on these arrests so the world knows about the truth-telling heroes at Apple Daily.”
Background:
Last month, Sasse called for the former staff of Apple Daily to receive the Congressional Gold Medal for their courage and determination in the face of the Chinese Communist Party’s tyranny.
