Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement regarding his vote on the VOCA Fix to Sustain the Crime Victims Fund Act:
“By failing to adopt my amendment, the Senate missed a tremendous opportunity to guarantee Crime Victim Fund dollars actually reach victims of crime. While I am disappointed many voted to maintain the ability to withhold these funds in order to finance unrelated programs, I will not stop fighting to ensure these victims receive the support they deserve.”
Background:
The Crime Victims Fund (CVF) is a Department of Justice-maintained reserve fund that provides financial aid to victims of crime and the organizations that support them. Currently, it is funded largely by criminal penalties and fines. historically, money in the CVF was withheld from victims and used to finance unrelated spending. Senator Toomey’s amendment would have required CVF dollars actually be used to support victims of crime.
