Duckworth, Durbin Announce $12.5 Million for Head Start Programs in Illinois

[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today announced a total of $12,565,955 in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) grants to support Head Start services for children under the age of five in receiving wrap-around support in early learning and development.

“Head Start and Early Head Start programs are crucial for kids throughout Illinois to have the tools they need to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom,” said Duckworth. “This federal support for these programs won’t just support these children now but helps set them up for a prosperous future as well. I’m proud to continue supporting this program with Senator Durbin to help children reach their full potential.” 

“Investing in early childhood education and parental support programs is an investment in our future,” said Durbin. “This funding will serve as a strong foundation for ensuring the long-term success of our children by promoting their early learning, health, and family well-being.”

Recipients of HHS grants include:

  1. Southern Seven Health Department: $2,913,039
  2. Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Joliet, Inc: $3,814,629
  3. BCMW Community Services, Inc: $1,969,033
  4. Baby Talk, Inc: $1,111,494
  5. Western Egyptian Economic Opportunity Council: $2,757,760
