Rosen, Colleagues Sent Letters To Senate Appropriators Requesting Funding For Rural Small Businesses, Nonprofit Child Care Providers, And Legally-Operating Cannabis Businesses

WASHINGTON, DC –  During Small Business Week, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, announced she led more than a dozen of her colleagues in sending three letters to Senate Appropriators requesting funding for legal cannabis, nonprofit child care, and rural small businesses. The requests would provide $40 million for the Rural Business Development Grant program to support the growth and development of small and emerging businesses in rural areas. These letters also call for providing nonprofit child care providers with greater access to loans from the Small Business Administration (SBA), and allowing legal cannabis small businesses in Nevada, and other states where cannabis is legal, to access SBA loan programs.

“Small businesses power our communities and are key pillars of Nevada’s local economy,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m urging my colleagues to appropriate all adequate resources for Nevada’s small businesses to thrive, particularly businesses in our rural communities, those helping to expand access to child care, and legal cannabis small businesses that deserve equal access to capital. We must always take action to see that these small businesses have the support they need to succeed.”

During this year’s Small Business Week, Senator Rosen has introduced bipartisan legislation to help America’s small businesses thrive. Earlier this week, Senator Rosen introduced the Minority Entrepreneurship Grant Program Act to establish a Minority Entrepreneurship Grant Program through the SBA to award grants to Minority Serving Institutions and Historically Black Colleges and Universities to promote and increase opportunities for minority students to start their own businesses. Senator Rosen also introduced the Investing in American Defense Technologies Act, which would establish a federal public-private partnership to scale, support, and invest in American defense-centric small businesses producing advanced capabilities, including hypersonics, space, and autonomous systems.
