WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) issued the following statement on Tax Day:

“I get it – Tax Day is one of the most dreaded days for hard-working Americans. It serves as a reminder that Democrats’ out-of-control, inflationary spending results in more money taken out of the pockets of hardworking Americans and placed into bloated federal budgets managed by unelected and out-of-touch Washington bureaucrats,” Senator Scott said. “Put simply: I believe the American people are the best stewards of their own money. That’s why I fought to expand the child tax credit and double the standardized deduction for low- and middle-income families. Working with my Senate colleagues, I created Opportunity Zones, a program that has pumped tens of billions of new private investment dollars – not a single cent of which is taxpayer money – into impoverished zip codes around the country. Over the coming days, I’ll continue my work by unveiling a plan to protect American taxpayers from President Biden’s supercharged IRS.”

Last year, congressional Democrats worked with President Biden to spend $80 billion of U.S. taxpayer money to:

  • Hire up to 30,000 new IRS agents over the course of two years – greater than the total current number of U.S. border patrol agents;
  • Collect more revenue off the backs of low-income Americans through crippling audits; and
  • Spend $45 billion of your taxpayer dollars for “enforcement” purposes while gutting key taxpayer protections.
