HARTFORD—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, on Thursday praised the Biden Administration’s plan to expand health coverage for DACA recipients. Through a proposed rule from the Department of Health and Human Services, DACA recipients would be eligible to apply for coverage under the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid for the first time. “For more than a decade, Dreamers in Connecticut and across the country have done everything we’ve asked of them. They’ve gone to school, gotten jobs, paid taxes, and contributed to their local communities in extraordinary ways. I’m glad to see the Biden administration taking this step to finally get these kids access to quality, affordable health care, and I’m going to keep fighting for their pathway to full citizenship.”

In November 2022, Murphy joined 85 of his Senate and House colleagues in urging the Department of Health and Human services to remove barriers that prevented DACA recipients from accessing affordable health insurance.
