(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) — negotiators of the bipartisan infrastructure law — and Representatives Annie Kuster (NH-02) and Chris Pappas (NH-01) welcomed $511,898 for Boire Field Airport (ASH) in Nashua. Specifically, these funds will be used to support the reconstruction of 11,277 square yards of the existing apron pavement that has reached the end of its useful life.
The funds were made available through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) – the bipartisan infrastructure bill – that was signed into law in 2021. The funding will specifically be allocated through the Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program. These funds are designated to support airports in the New Hampshire State Block Grant Program, like Boire Field.
“New Hampshire’s regional airports play an important role in supporting economic development across the state. I’m glad to see these federal funds from the bipartisan infrastructure law heading to Nashua’s Boire Field to support essential infrastructure updates,” said Senator Shaheen. “To support future economic growth, it’s important we continue to invest in New Hampshire’s air transportation infrastructure. I’ll continue to advocate for resources to support Granite State airports and the communities that depend on them for commerce and travel.”
“This new grant for Nashua’s Boire Field demonstrates how the bipartisan infrastructure law continues to strengthen our economy by modernizing and repairing our airports,” Senator Hassan said. “Local airports like Boire Field are an essential component of our state’s infrastructure, and I look forward to seeing how the bipartisan infrastructure law will continue help bring all of our airports fully into the 21st century.”
“The safety and performance of our state’s airports are essential to our economic growth and connectivity – and this grant will help ensure Nashua Airport remains an active hub for pilots and travelers alike,” said Rep. Kuster. “I was proud to help secure these funds through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Package, and I look forward to seeing this new construction!”
“As we continue to welcome investments made possible by the bipartisan infrastructure law, I’m pleased to see this funding coming to New Hampshire for the Nashua Airport,” said Rep. Pappas. “This airport serves as a center for all types of flights from military to recreational, and this investment will update and modernize old infrastructure. I’ll keep fighting to bring federal resources back to New Hampshire to update our infrastructure and support our economy.”
Shaheen was a lead negotiator of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This legislation provides a $550 billion investment in our nation’s core infrastructure priorities – including roads and bridges, rail, transit, ports, airports, the electric grid, water systems and broadband. In June 2021, Shaheen joined President Biden and a bipartisan group of senators to announce the framework of the package. As a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Shaheen historically works to include funding for programs that support New Hampshire’s airports. Earlier this year, the Senator welcomed $7 million for Portsmouth International Airport at Pease to support a terminal arrivals area expansion project, and a $2.8 million award for Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) to support modifications and rehabilitation efforts for the terminal building.
