WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) announced his State of the Union guest will be Burleigh County Sheriff Kelly Leben.

“Kelly is an exceptional lawman. He’s [not only] passionate about his work, but he’s also joyful about it,” said Senator Cramer. “I like to say of him, he’s not only a peace keeper, he’s a peace maker. He’s got the right demeanor for the job, and I’m just grateful I can call him a friend and I get to call him my sheriff, and that he’s my guest tonight.”

Sheriff Leben brings over three decades of experience working for the department he now leads. Prior to joining law enforcement, he was a sergeant in the U.S. Army. Throughout his career, he has participated in FBI programs and accrued more than 3,500 continued education credit hours. Upon his election in 2018, Sheriff Leben set an objective to help address the rise in drug-related crime by strengthening enforcement mechanisms for offenders and addiction treatment resources for users.
