WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today made the following statement after Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to review possible mishandling of classified documents by President Joe Biden when he was Vice President.

“I appreciate Attorney General Garland appointing a special counsel to review possible mishandling of classified documents by President Biden when he was Vice President. Many questions remain as to why the discovery of classified documents – found several days before the midterm election – was not announced until after the election.

“The bottom line is we need to fully understand what happened in both cases – involving Presidents Trump and Biden – to make sure our system works in a way to protect our national security interests.

“When it comes to talk about obstructing justice we all must remember former Secretary of State Clinton’s case involved hard drives being beaten with a hammer, the using of BleachBit to prevent the recovery of files, and the disappearance of 30,000 emails under subpoena. Right or wrong, nothing happened in her case.

“The decision to appoint a special counsel in this case is in the best interest of the country.”
