[WASHINGTON, D.C.] — U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee and the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued a statement following the joint address of Congress by South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol:
“It was a pleasure to have President Yoon Suk Yeol address Congress and to hear his vision for his country and the future of our strong alliance between our nations. South Korea remains a vital ally in the region and the possibilities to expand and develop economic partnerships, especially in the areas of manufacturing, agriculture and tech, are endless. When our two nations invest in each other, there’s no limit to the opportunities we can create together, and I look forward to continuing to work to accomplish our shared goals.”
The Senator attended last night’s State Dinner at the White House in honor of President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee. Last year, Duckworth traveled to South Korea and Taiwan where she met with business, government and trade leaders, which helped lead to a joint venture between Illinois’s ADM and South Korea’s LG Chem, as well as a commitment from Taiwan to purchase an estimated $2.6 billion of the state’s corn and soybeans. In 2021, she co-led a bipartisan congressional delegation to South Korea, where the Senators discussed shared interests and future areas of cooperation and met with high-level officials.
