Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $195,000 from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to the Region 1 Planning and Development Council and the Putnam County Development Authority. The funding will support conducting a feasibility and siting study for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout southern West Virginia, as well as assisting Putnam County in developing vital economic development strategies.
“Investing in our local communities creates good-paying jobs and spurs economic opportunity, and today’s announcement is great news for the entire state,” said Senator Manchin. “The EDA continues to be a strong partner for West Virginia, and these investments will allow the regions to compete and thrive. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of this funding for years to come and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to support economic growth across the Mountain State.”
Individual awards listed below:
- $120,000 – Region 1 Planning and Development Council, southern West Virginia
- This funding will support the Council in conducting a comprehensive feasibility and siting study for EV charging stations throughout Regions 1 and 4. The study will examine strategic locations for charging stations to catalyze economic development, support existing businesses, improve quality of life for residents and visitors and support key tourism destinations.
- $75,000 – Putnam County Development Authority
- This funding will help develop a strategic plan to assist in the capitalization of recent growth of industries and communities located in Putnam County. The plan will address job creation, public resources and greater community attraction throughout the area.
