WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced today the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will provide $2,379,267 through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) to fund infrastructure projects at the Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport (BWG).
Today’s grant announcement will fund the rehabilitation of Bowling Green’s airport runways, including the installation of runway lighting and multiple investments to improve the safety of flyers and airport workers.
Senator McConnell advocated for AIP funding in this year’s government funding bill, which he helped craft as a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. The bill passed the Senate and became law at the end of last year.
“Kentucky’s regional airports are a critical gateway that connect our Commonwealth’s many communities to the wider world. Today’s funding will help BWG adapt to the growing needs of South Central Kentucky, providing better connectivity, enhancing safety, and supporting economic growth in the region,” said Senator McConnell.
“Investments in South Central Kentucky’s aviation infrastructure are critical to BWG’s commitment to safety and quality service, as well as the future growth of the region. We are thankful for Senator McConnell’s work in Washington to secure this funding for the Bowling Green community,” said Susan Harmon, Airport Manager of the Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport.
