Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) toured the Healthy Asians & Pacific Islanders (HAPI) Medical Center with Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community leaders to highlight her efforts to expand access to affordable health care for all Nevadans, including legislation she’s leading to hold Big Pharma accountable and lower drug prices by penalizing drug companies for raising prices faster than the rate of inflation.

“HAPI is doing great work to help ensure our AAPI communities in Nevada have access to affordable, quality care they deserve, and I’ll continue fighting to expand funding for community health centers and lower prescription drug costs for all Nevada families,” said Senator Cortez Masto

The AAPI population is the fastest growing demographic in Nevada, making up about 12% of Nevada’s population. The HAPI Medical Center is a non-profit organization offering comprehensive health care to the AAPI community in Las Vegas, including those uninsured or underinsured. The center provides quality health services without language barriers to better serve the medical needs of the underserved AAPI community.

“Our growing AAPI communities across Nevada are already benefiting from Senator Cortez Masto’s work to lower health care costs. Approximately 81 percent in our AAPI communities are uninsured, so I was glad to join the Senator today at HAPI Medical Center, which provides critical services to our communities, to hear about her efforts to make health care more accessible for everyone in our communities and bring down drug prices,” said Vida Lin, President & Founder of ACDC.

Senator Cortez Masto has fought to lower health care costs, and she’s been a champion for AAPI Nevadans. Last year, she met with AAPI community leaders in Las Vegas to discuss how the Inflation Reduction Act that she passed into law will make health care more affordable by giving Medicare the power to negotiate drug prices, capping drug costs, and limiting egregious price hikes by drug manufacturers.
