[BELVIDERE, IL] – U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with local leaders and first responders in Belvidere after Friday’s deadly storms caused the collapse of the Apollo Theatre, killing one and injuring dozens more. The Senators received recovery updates from Belvidere Mayor Clint Morris, Belvidere Police Chief Shane Woody, Belvidere Fire Chief Shawn Schadle and other city leadership as well as thanked first responders for their work in recovery efforts. “What happened in Belvidere and throughout Illinois this weekend was tragic, and my thoughts are with the families of those who were killed and injured,” Duckworth said. “Thank you to our brave first responders for their heroic efforts in recovery and to these local leaders for their work to keep residents safe, it was good to receive updates on these efforts directly from them here today. Senator Durbin and I will keep doing all that we can to ensure Illinois receives the emergency assistance it needs from the federal level.”
