WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, announced $7,094,905 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for six programs that will support medical research and improve health care services across West Virginia.
“It’s great that so many important initiatives across our state are receiving recognition and support from HHS,” Ranking Member Capito said. “This funding will strengthen critical services across West Virginia, while also supporting research initiatives important to improving the health of West Virginians. I will continue to advocate for resources our state agencies and higher education institutions need to keep serving our state.”
Individual awards listed below:
- $2,703,195 – The State of West Virginia (Ryan White Title II Formula Grants Program): This funding will support state implementation of comprehensive, high-quality health care across West Virginia.
- $2,135,772 – Camden-On-Gauley Medical Center, Inc.: This funding will support the health care cluster in Webster County, W.Va., increasing the accessibility of health care providers in the area.
- $1,000,000 – The State of West Virginia (Section 223 Demonstration Programs to Improve Community Mental Health Services): This funding will support increased mental health services for West Virginians across the state.
- $544,058 – West Virginia University (WVU): This funding will support research at WVU that works with heart and vascular diseases.
- $499,130 – Marshall Community Health Consortium, Inc.: This funding will support a teaching health center planning and development program.
- $212,750 – Marshall University: This funding will support university-level alcohol research programs.
