CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $2,392,245 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support vision research, maternal and child health services, and increased Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation research in West Virginia.
“West Virginia provides critical research in the health space,” Senator Capito said. “I am glad to see HHS invest in these three programs and initiatives at Marshall University, DHHR, and WVU, which will ultimately help them continue their vital mission of creating healthier communities across our state. This funding will not only strengthen services like maternal and child health services, but it will also support research initiatives important to public health.”
“I’m pleased HHS is investing more than $2.3 million in these three critical initiatives that will advance medical research and strengthen healthcare services across West Virginia,” Senator Manchin said. “The funding announced today will support critical research projects on vision and light processing through West Virginia University and on certain infections through Marshall University. The funding will also help bolster maternal and child health services across the state, and I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of the investments for years to come. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to boost scientific research and enhance health services for every West Virginian across the Mountain State.”
