Klobuchar has long led efforts to eliminate hidden fees that increase costs for consumers

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights, released the statement below on the White House competition council meeting urging Congressional action to protect consumers from junk fees.

“Far too many Americans are experiencing increased costs on everything from cell phone bills to airplane and concert tickets, because of unfair fees,” said Klobuchar. “At last week’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, I called  Ticketmaster out on the lack of competition in the ticketing market and the excessive fees charged to consumers. I’m committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to take action to ensure American consumers see lower costs, fairer prices, and better services.”

Klobuchar has long led efforts to eliminate hidden, additional fees that increase costs for consumers. At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last week on the problems in America’s ticketing markets, Klobuchar pressed Live Nation President and Chief Financial Officer Joe Berchtold about the company’s excessive ancillary fees.

Klobuchar has also fought to require airlines to allow children to sit together with their family members on flights at no additional charge, and introduced legislation to eliminate excessive early termination fees for phone, television, and internet contracts.
