WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) issued the following statement on the $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill:

“I continue to oppose the utter dysfunction of Congress. Ramming through must-pass bills like this omnibus spending package with absolutely no transparency is disrespectful to Rank and File members and the American people we represent. While there’s some good in the bill including fully funding our military and defense needs, I refuse to facilitate this bad behavior.”

Background:

In July, Senator Cramer renewed his call for regular order in an op-ed for The Hill. He wrote about the importance of creating and passing legislation the way our Founding Fathers intended calling for an end to legislating by gang – which is how this omnibus was put together.

“Following regular order by writing bills, holding hearings, marking up in committee, amending on the Senate floor, and reconciling in a conference committee inherently leads to better products. These products have buy-in from elected members of Congress who are accountable to their voters,” wrote Senator Cramer.
