U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement after being selected as the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) 2022 Legislator of the Year, a competitive award designed to recognize Congressional leaders who have made significant contributions to, and provided substantial support for, the Total Army – Regular, National Guard, Reserve, Army civilians, Army families, survivors, caregivers and veterans.

Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, was also selected as the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) 2022 Legislator of the Year alongside Inhofe, serving as a testament to their work ethic, bipartisanship and ability to get things done for the defense community throughout their time on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

“Throughout my time in Congress, it has been a priority of mine to continue my service for our nation, even though my days in uniform have ended,” Inhofe said. “Each year in which I have been on the Senate Armed Services Committee, I have dedicated time and resources towards working alongside my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure that our military has what it needs to protect our nation’s safety and security.

“And I am not done advocating for our military. Even now, there is bipartisan collaboration to finish the FY23 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) – a vital bill which will give the Army, and all other branches, the funds and resources to do their job well.

“I am incredibly humbled and honored to be selected as the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) 2022 Legislator of the Year alongside my good friend, Jack Reed. I am also proud of our joint efforts to preserve, renew and expand provisions in this year’s NDAA to support the United States Army. During my time in the Senate, I will continue fighting for the Total Army and for the United States’ national defense altogether.”

“Senators Reed and Inhofe have long been, and continue to be, champions of the Total Army – our Soldiers, their families, caregivers and veterans. Naming these distinguished Senators the 2022 Legislators of the Year was an easy choice,” said Retired Gen. Bob Brown, president and CEO of the Association of the U.S. Army. “Their bipartisan leadership, tireless efforts and patriotism puts our Soldiers first and ensures that they have the resources necessary to ‘Fight and Win.’ As our nation faces unprecedented security challenges and the demands on the Army increase, I can think of no more ardent supporters of our men and women in uniform than these two Soldiers for Life.”
