U.S. Senator Ben Sasse gave the following statement regarding the ECA legislation introduced today.
“This is a good bill – specifically the provisions clarifying the Vice President’s limited role and increasing the threshold for objections. This bill cleans up some ambiguity in the ECA that was dishonestly exploited on January 6th. For months, some progressives have tried to hijack these talks and use this as an opportunity to federalize elections, but that’s not going to fly. I’m glad that my colleagues rejected a new federal cause of action that would have been a giveaway to partisan election attorneys, and instead focused on solving real problems. Susan and Joe have worked hard to tackle this issue. Let’s get this done.”
