SPIRITWOOD, ND – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) celebrated the groundbreaking of North Dakota’s first-ever dedicated soybean crushing plant and refinery with ADM, Marathon Petroleum, Governor Doug Burgum (R-ND), Senator John Hoeven (R-ND), Congressman Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), local leaders, and North Dakota’s agricultural community in Spiritwood, ND.
“Today is a great day for North Dakota. This groundbreaking is a celebration of our impressive soybean producers, robust fuel manufacturing industry, and foresight of local leaders,” said Senator Cramer. “Green Bison Soy Processing will provide good-paying jobs, additional economic opportunities for Spiritwood and Jamestown, and more reliable and profitable markets for producers in the area. This project would not be possible without the work of our state and local leaders over the last few years to make this happen, especially the Bank of North Dakota, whose financial leadership made this possible. I look forward to seeing this facility in action by next year’s harvest.”
Background:
In May 2021, ADM announced its plan to build the approximately $350 million soybean crushing and refinery complex. Based in Spiritwood, the will have the capacity to process 150,000 bushels of soybeans per day. The facility is expected to be complete prior to the 2023 harvest. Learn more here.
In August 2021, ADM and Marathon Petroleum announced a joint venture using North Dakota-processed soybean oil for renewable diesel production. Marathon invested in ADM’s soybean crushing plant near the Spiritwood Energy Park, with the refined soybean oil being exclusively supplied to Marathon’s renewable diesel facility in Dickinson. “The ADM and Marathon partnership highlights the ingenuity of our agriculture and energy producers while providing more investment and jobs for workers,” said Senator Cramer.
