DETROIT, MI – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and former Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, today released a video in honor of Memorial Day on Monday.
“On this solemn holiday – we remember the fallen servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom and the values that we hold so dear,” said Senator Peters. “Their sacrifice is a debt that can never be repaid, and it’s up to each of us to carry on their legacy and their honor.”

Below is the text of Senator Peters’ remarks:
“As we join today with friends and family to spend some much-needed quality time together – let us reflect upon the significance that Memorial Day holds.
“On this solemn holiday – we remember the fallen servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom and the values that we hold so dear. Their sacrifice is a debt that can never be repaid, and it’s up to each of us to carry on their legacy and their honor.
“We also uplift the families of these fallen service members – who forever bear the heavy burden of their loss. To the Gold Star mothers, fathers, husbands, wives, sisters, brothers, and children all across our country: We stand with you – today and each and every day.
“On this Memorial Day, I encourage all Michiganders to take time to pay tribute to the generations of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines – who have served our nation with bravery – as well as those who returned home with wounds – both visible and invisible.
“God bless all of those who have served. God bless all of those currently serving. And God bless the United States of America.”
