U.S. Senator Ben Sasse issued the following statement on Memorial Day.
“One day is not nearly enough for us to express gratitude for those who gave their lives to defend our freedom. We have a duty to answer President Lincoln’s call to ‘resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain,’ and to honor our nation’s fallen heroes. That is what this day is about. Freedom is passed from one generation to the next, and we use this day to teach our kids that our blessings have come at a great cost.”
