**Hearing includes questions about FBI response to Uvalde massacre that killed 21, combating domestic terrorism and more**
(Washington, DC) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Chair of the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies (CJS) Senate Appropriations subcommittee, today chaired a hearing with testimony from Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray. The hearing focused on the Bureau’s fiscal year (FY) 2023 funding request, particularly on efforts to reduce gun violence in the wake of the Robb Elementary School shooting.
Shaheen began her opening remarks thanking the FBI for its swift response to the Uvalde massacre and urging collaboration between Congress and the FBI on action to stem gun violence and domestic terrorism. She opened her questioning by asking Director Wray for updates around the shooter’s motivations and for research around the growing threat of lone violent actors. She also pushed for his reflections on what factors are driving surging rates of violent crime in New Hampshire and across the nation.
