[WASHINGTON, D.C.]—U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Jim Inhofe (R-OK), Ben Cardin (D-MD), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Tom Carper (D-DE), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Alex Padilla (D-CA) and praised the passage of S. Res. 641, a bipartisan resolution they introduced designating the week of May 15 through May 21, 2022, as National Public Works Week. The resolution encourages the public to recognize and celebrate the important contributions that public works officials make every day to improve public infrastructure in the United States.
“This National Public Works Week also marks six months since President Biden signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law—including my water infrastructure provisions to help deliver safer, cleaner water to Americans—which is making investments in communities across the country, creating good-paying jobs and helping rebuild our nation’s infrastructure,” said Duckworth. “I’m proud to join this bipartisan resolution to honor all the hard-working Americans who keep our public works running smoothly and look forward to continuing to support improvement projects across the nation.”
“It is vital that we continue to maintain and improve upon America’s infrastructure so that it lasts for generations,” Inhofe said. “That’s why I am glad the Senate passed this resolution introduced by myself and my colleagues to recognize this week as National Public Works Week. This week we celebrate our past accomplishments in public works and—most importantly—we look to the future. A future where we prioritize responsible, bipartisan investment in real infrastructure and the men and women who work to sustain it every day.”
“This year, thanks to the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, we are delivering transformative change to our critical infrastructure in Maryland and nationwide,” said Cardin. “National Public Works Week allows us to celebrate the outstanding people who build, operate and maintain the essential systems that support our daily lives.”
“It’s important that we recognize and thank the men and women who work hard every day to maintain our nation’s infrastructure, and this National Public Works Week is the perfect chance to do just that,” said Capito, Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “These public works professionals serve their communities tirelessly and keep our country’s infrastructure strong and safe. We are grateful for their work and dedication.”
“This year, the work being done by public works agencies is more important and visible than ever, thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that President Biden signed into law last year,” said Carper, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. “In passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we delivered critical resources to agencies in states and cities across the country. Now, we depend on the tireless efforts of our public works personnel to put those resources to work and build the resilient, sustainable infrastructure for a brighter future.”
“Public works projects are essential to building and maintaining our nation’s infrastructure,” Wicker said. “I am glad to join my colleagues this week to recognize the hard work our public works professionals.”
“Our roads, bridges, ports and water systems are critical to our economic growth and the flow of goods and services,” said Cramer. “Investing in aging infrastructure enables food, manufactured goods, and services get to those who need them. On this National Public Works Week, we celebrate and recognize the hard work of those who build and maintain our nation’s infrastructure.”
