Schumer, Gillibrand: Investing In Binghamton’s Youth Is Investing In The Future
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced that they have secured $1,000,000 for the City of Binghamton to bolster the community’s ongoing pursuit to create a comprehensive youth center. The funding was secured as a part of the bipartisan omnibus spending package for Fiscal Year 2022. The senators said this will allow the city to expand youth programming, boost recreational and after school opportunities. They are pleased to help support the City of Binghamton’s effort, by delivering additional financial support, to move the project one -step closer to fruition, to creating a full service gathering space to meet the community’s needs.
“Investing in Binghamton’s youth is investing in the future of the Southern Tier, and I am proud to deliver this $1 million in funding to boost the community, its families, and most importantly the children of Binghamton,” said Senator Schumer. “These funds will help support the City of Binghamton’s efforts, moving one step closer to establishing a gathering space that will provide opportunity, experiences and support for Binghamton’s youth.”
“This is a critical investment in Binghamton’s youth,” said Senator Gillibrand. “The new recreation center will keep young people off the streets and provide a safe outlet for learning, sports, and personal growth. I’m proud to have pushed to include this funding in the 2022 spending package and I’ll keep fighting to bring federal dollars to the New York communities that need it most.”
“There is nothing more important to Binghamton’s future than creating meaningful opportunities for our youth,” said Mayor Jared M. Kraham. “This investment will help Binghamton as we continue to explore options for a first-of-its-kind recreation center to serve our children and families. Thank you to Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand for securing this funding for our community.”
“One of the priorities of this City Council is to invest in the future of our City – our youth!” said City Council President Phil Strawn. “We have been looking for a path to create a safe place for our youth with inclusive programming, done in a fiscally responsible way for our taxpayers. This funding will help us augment assets already in place to maximize those dollars for the highest possible return for our youth. Thank you to Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand for securing this funding for Binghamton’s most important asset – our youth.”
Councilmember Aviva Friedman Binghamton City Council District 4 said, “I am excited to see this community center come to fruition! I’m thankful that my constituents and residents of the city have remained flexible as we figure out how best to achieve this collective dream. We have been in need of a centrally located recreation facility for a while now, and I’m thrilled that we have secured funding to get us one step closer to fully realizing this important investment. Thank you Senators Schumer and Gillibrand!”
