ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 19, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will engage in on-the-ground discussions in Albuquerque and Las Vegas to advance priorities for New Mexicans.
At 11 a.m. MT, Senator Heinrich will attend the open house for the New Mexico Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Center. Senator Heinrich worked closely with the City of Albuquerque and the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce to secure $300,000 that helped establish the center in December 2020. Senator Heinrich played a key role in delivering $1.875 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce that will allow the center to operate for the next five years.

At 11:45 a.m. MT, Senator Heinrich will visit Albuquerque Crossroads for Women. Then, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, at 4:30 p.m. MT, Senator Heinrich will discuss his efforts to keep health care services available to area-veterans at the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post 1547. Senator Heinrich has been vocal in his opposition to recommendations that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs provided for the Asset and Infrastructure Review Commission, which could impact the delivery of health care services at the community-based outpatient clinics (CBOC) in Las Vegas, Gallup, Española, and Raton.
Last week, Senator Heinrich joined Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representative Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.) in a letter requesting that VA Secretary Denis McDonough visit New Mexico to see firsthand just how integral community-based outpatient clinics are to veterans living in rural and Tribal communities in the state.
