WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) issued the following statement in response to the recent actions by the Biden Administration to address the increasing gun violence crisis and the nomination of Steve Dettelbach as ATF Director:
“I am grateful to the Biden Administration for the work they have done thus far to reduce gun violence and promote public safety and I applaud the critical steps they took this week to close the ghost gun loophole. Since last year, I have been sounding the alarm alongside other colleagues urging the President to take actions including nominating a director to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (AFT) and finalizing the ghost guns rule, as well as pursuing additional executive actions on gun violence.
“According to gun safety experts, finalizing this rule is the single most important thing we can do to shut down the ghost gun marketplace once and for all. Simply put, having this order in place will save American lives. I also look forward to fully reviewing President Biden’s nomination of Steve Dettelbach as ATF Director. The ATF needs strong, Senate-confirmed leadership in order to fulfill its mission of making our communities safer.”
