WASHINGTON – This week, U.S. Senators Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Jack Reed (D-R.I.), co-chairs of the Financial Literacy Caucus, introduced a resolution declaring the month of April as Financial Literacy Month.

“Having grown up in an underserved community, I know the enormous impact that early financial education can make on the trajectory of a person’s life,” said Sen. Scott. “Throughout this month and beyond, I’ll continue working to expand financial literacy and empower Americans with the tools and the confidence they need to secure a more prosperous future.”

According to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), approximately 7.1 million Americans are unbanked. These individuals have limited or no access to savings, lending, and other basic financial services, reducing their ability to build wealth and achieve long-term financial security.

The resolution was cosponsored by Senators Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Bob Casey (D-Pa.), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), Mark Warner (D-Va.), Todd Young (R-Ind.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), and Rick Scott (R-Fla.)
