WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) today released the following statement after meeting with President Joe Biden’s nominee for the Supreme Court, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. Pictures of the meeting can be found here.

“After carefully reviewing Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s extensive record, watching her confirmation hearings, and meeting with her in-person today, there isn’t a trace of doubt in my mind that she will faithfully carry out the duty entrusted to her by the Constitution – interpreting our country’s laws in a fair, just, and independent manner. I look forward to enthusiastically voting in support of her confirmation on the Senate Floor.

“As the first Black woman nominated to serve on the Supreme Court, Judge Jackson is a testament to the progress we have achieved throughout our 246-year struggle for a more perfect Union. Her presence alone, as the first Black woman to be nominated to the Supreme Court, will forever change the course of history by bringing the lived experiences of Black women to the highest court in our land. Besides her nomination’s historic nature, Judge Jackson’s extensive breadth of academic and judicial credentials make her an outstanding nominee. Over the years, she has accrued more experience as a trial court judge than any sitting justice on the Supreme Court, and will be the second Justice ever to have experience at all three levels of our federal judiciary, following a legal trailblazer in her own right, Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

“In the coming days, when we make history by confirming Judge Jackson to the Supreme Court, I will think not only of what this moment means for the Black women in America, but I will also think of my three granddaughters – Evangelina, Ofelia, and Olivia. They will grow up knowing that, thanks to Justices like Sotomayor, and soon-to-be Justice Jackson, there isn’t a single thing they can’t accomplish in America.”
