Manchin, Capito Announce USACE Funding for West Virginia Water Resources

Washington, DC — U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced funding for water resources projects and programs in West Virginia through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). This funding is made possible through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

“Every West Virginian deserves clean water to drink, fresh air to breathe. In order to ensure all West Virginians have access to clean water, it’s critical that Army Corps facilities are maintained and that water infrastructure across the state is maintained and updated. I successfully fought to include historic investments for water infrastructure and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and I am pleased with these ten new investments in our state,” Senator Manchin said. “As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to upgrade and improve water infrastructure across the Mountain State.”

“The Army Corps of Engineers is a significant partner for West Virginia, with our numerous rivers, lakes and streams,” Ranking Member Capito said. “This latest round of IIJA funding will help maintain important projects such as Summersville Lake, support water and wastewater services in central and southern West Virginia, and keep our communities safe from flood hazards. I was proud to advocate for this funding and will continue my work as lead Republican on the EPW Committee to deliver critical water resources infrastructure to our state.”

Individual awards listed below:

$27,500,000 – Jennings Randolph Lake for operation and maintenance activities
$6,500,000 – Summersville Lake for operation and maintenance activities
$2,135,000 – Central West Virginia Environmental Infrastructure (Section 571) for water and wastewater treatment projects
$1,500,000 – Southern West Virginia Environmental Infrastructure (Section 340) for water and wastewater treatment projects
$350,000 – Stonewall Jackson Lake for operation and maintenance activities
$225,000 – Burnsville Lake for operation and maintenance activities
$249,000 – Sutton Lake for operation and maintenance activities
$200,000 – Kanawha River, Spruce Street, St. Albans, WV for pre-construction, engineering, and design of a riverbank stabilization project
$200,000 – Kanawha River, Upton Light, South Charleston, WV for pre-construction, engineering, and design of a riverbank stabilization project
$50,000 – Elk River, Elkview, WV to continue the study for a riverbank stabilization project
