WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) met with Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, President Biden’s nominee to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, following Justice Stephen Breyer’s retirement at the end of this term. The Senate Judiciary Committee held a confirmation hearing for Judge Jackson last week and is expected to report her nomination to the full Senate for consideration and a final confirmation vote as early as next week.
“Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is extremely qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. After hearing from her directly, I am even more proud to support her historic nomination,” said Heinrich. “She brings a strong record of experience serving as a judge on the federal bench and practicing law in the criminal justice system. I take my constitutional duty to consider Supreme Court nominees very seriously, and it was important to hear directly from Judge Jackson about the evenhanded and fair way that she approaches legal decisions. We also discussed her approach to issues impacting New Mexico and the West, including water law and Tribal sovereignty.”
“I hope all of my colleagues in the Senate will join me in working to swiftly confirm her as our next Supreme Court Justice,” Heinrich continued.
