Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King and Representative Jared Golden announced today that they secured $1,700,000 for the wastewater treatment facility that serves the towns of Livermore Falls and Jay in the Fiscal Year 2022 Interior and Environment Appropriations bill. Senator Collins is a senior member of the Appropriations Committee.
The omnibus funding package passed the House and the Senate and now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.
“Maintaining and upgrading wastewater systems is vital to ensuring the economic and environmental health of the community,” said Senator Collins. “I strongly advocated for these significant investments at the Livermore Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant, which will help improve this essential infrastructure for residents and businesses in Livermore Falls and Jay as well as protect local water supplies.”
“Modern wastewater systems are absolutely essential for healthy, successful communities,” said Senator King. “The $1.7 million investment in the Livermore Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant is an important step to improve the effectiveness of these systems for the Livermore Falls area and ensure the safety of local water supplies. I look forward to seeing the significant improvements that will be made with these funds.”
“For decades, the Livermore Falls Wastewater Treatment Facility has helped protect the health of communities and support local economies along the Androscoggin River with cleaner water.” said Congressman Golden. “However, this half century-old facility needs upgrades and repairs and I’m proud to help deliver funding to make those investments. This investment will make sure the facility runs smoothly for decades to come, benefitting the next generation of taxpayers and businesses in Jay and Livermore Falls.”
“As we continue to move forward with the construction phase of the $14 million upgrade of the Wastewater Treatment Facility that serves the Towns of Livermore Falls and Jay, the $1.7 million CDS Grant will be a great asset to help reduce the financial burden our ratepayers and citizens will be facing,” said Mark Holt, Superintendent of the Livermore Falls & Jay Sewer Department. “We are very appreciative of the work that Senator Collins, Senator King, and Congressman Golden have put forth to secure this CDS Grant funding for our communities. It’s good to know they are in Washington looking out for the interests and needs of Maine’s citizens.”
The funding secured by Senators Collins and King and Representative Golden will be used for upgrades to the Livermore Falls wastewater treatment facility. The project will address structural deficiencies with the primary clarifiers, chlorine contact chambers, and sludge holding tanks as well as improve safety.
