WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) released the following statement in support of the FY 2022 bipartisan funding agreement that provides additional funding for Ukraine and other key Ohio priorities.

“We must do everything we can right now to support the people of Ukraine, and this legislation provides vital funding to help them in their fight against Russia. President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people continue to show bravery and resolve in the face of tremendous adversity. The United States must continue to do all it can to support Ukraine as they fight for the future of their countryI’m pleased this bill prioritizes funding for our own national defense and for the security of our allies like Ukraine.

“This measure also includes a number of other important priorities for Ohio. The bill provides additional resources to protect the Great Lakes, support our national parks and heritage areas, and fund other important conservation priorities. It funds our critical infrastructure priorities consistent with the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act to rebuild our roads, bridges, ports and other key priorities. The bill redoubles our efforts to address the heartbreaking surge in overdose deaths that have resulted from this pandemic with historic new funding for CARA programs. The measure supports our safety-net hospitals impacted by the pandemic and extends telehealth services for Medicare beneficiaries. It also provides significant increases in funding to help secure faith-based and nonprofit facilities around the country. I’m pleased this measure passed the Senate with significant bipartisan support.”
