Weeks After Schumer Personally Urged Breeze Airways CEO To Take Flight In Syracuse, Breeze Has Heeded His Call And Will Make Syracuse Their First Upstate New York Air Service

Breeze Airways CEO, David Neeleman, Is Also Who Started JetBlue; In 2001, Schumer Also Convinced Neeleman To Bring JetBlue To Syracuse, Making It The First Discount Airline At The Airport

Schumer: My Push To Bring Breeze To Syracuse Has Now Landed!

Following his personal meeting with Breeze Airways CEO David Neeleman, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer released the following statement on Breeze heeding his call to add service routes at Syracuse Hancock International Airport:

“Today’s news, landing Breeze Airways in Syracuse, is no small peanuts,” said Senator Schumer. “This tremendous new air service will help Syracuse’s economy reach new heights and as prospects of Central New York’s cutting-edge tech industry soar this additional service will help accelerate the regions pandemic recovery. The federal funds I have worked hard to deliver will keep Hancock airport in tip-top shape, and I am glad that Breeze has heeded my call to take flight in Upstate New York.”

Schumer has a long history of fighting for new affordable air service to Upstate New York. Last year, working closely with airport officials and after a personal call to the CEOSchumer convinced Southwest Airlines to establish service out of Syracuse Hancock International Airport for the first time. Schumer has also fought to bring new airlines and routes to Upstate New York cities, including JetBlue to Buffalo, Albany, Syracuse and Rochester. Since the start of the pandemic, Schumer has delivered over $1.3 billion for New York’s airports, including over $418 million in the American Rescue Plan, and over $937 million in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Law. Hancock International Airport received $12.2 million from the American Rescue Plan and $27 million over 5 years from the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Law.
