WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-N.J.) today issued the following joint statement on the Senate passage of the bipartisan Postal Service Reform Act of 2022, which is now headed to the President’s desk to be signed into law:

“Our offices hear from constituents every day about how unreliable and inconsistent mail service affects their personal and professional lives. We’re glad Congress has finally addressed many of the issues plaguing the U.S. Postal Service as families, seniors, and small businesses across New Jersey rely on the USPS to pay bills, send goods, and receive paychecks and lifesaving prescriptions. Absent an efficiently run postal service, a nationwide slowdown in mail service would ensue, wreaking havoc for all New Jerseyans and causing innocent people and our economy to suffer.

“Thankfully, Democrats and Republicans were able to come together and pass the Postal Service Reform Act of 2022 and avert a serious postal crisis. This bill takes a major step forward to ensuring the USPS has the funding and resources it needs to provide long-term reliable service, strengthens the transparency and accountability of the agency, and puts it back on a stable financial footing.

“Passing this landmark legislation proves that bipartisanship is not dead in D.C. We hope we can continue coming together to fix everyday issues that affect our constituents. We’re proud to have voted in favor of this bill and urge President Biden to sign it into law without delay.”
