Washington D.C.— Today, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released the following statement after President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address:

“Despite real progress in the last year, this remains a challenging moment for the country. Inflation strains Coloradans’ hard-earned paychecks at home, and abroad, Putin’s lawless war against Ukraine threatens the global order that has kept Americans safe.

“As President Biden said, this is a moment for Americans to come together, stand up for democracy, and strengthen our economy to drive opportunity to all.

“Now is the time for Congress to support the people of Ukraine and punish Russia’s aggression, cut costs for working families, and do everything we can to help America return to normal so businesses can stay open and students can stay in school.”

Bennet invited Ken Murphy, a small business owner from Glenwood Springs, Colorado, to be his virtual guest at Biden’s State of the Union address. Murphy is the co-owner of H2O Ventures in Glenwood Springs, where he manages the Hanging Lake hiking permit reservation system for the U.S. Forest Service, which has been affected by closures due to wildfires and mudslides fueled by climate change. Murphy also owns Local on Cooper, a restaurant in Glenwood Springs, and Adventure Outdoors, a one-stop adventure outfitter on the West Slope.

Over the past few years, Murphy’s businesses have faced challenge after challenge, from the pandemic to natural disasters fueled by climate change. Watch clips of Bennet and Murphy’s conversation from earlier this evening HERE.
