Cotton Doubles Down on Demand for Answers from DOJ

Washington, D.C. — Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today responded to a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) regarding reports that the DOJ is not providing legal defense for Deputy U.S. Marshals in Portland who protected the federal courthouse during BLM riots in 2020.

Cotton first requested information regarding these reports in January. On February 9, the Office of Legislative Affairs at the Department of Justice responded to Cotton’s letter, but failed to address the issue.

Text of the letter may be found here and below.

The Honorable Merrick Garland
U.S. Department of Justice
950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20530-0001

Dear Attorney General Garland:

I received your letter; you didn’t answer my question. Why won’t the Department of Justice defend four deputy U.S. Marshals attacked by a left-wing street militia in Portland?

Sincerely,

###
