Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) released the following statement after the Senate confirmed Amy Gutmann to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Germany.
“Congratulations to Dr. Amy Gutmann on her confirmation to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Germany. Dr. Gutmann’s accomplishments as one of the longest-serving presidents of the University of Pennsylvania and her commitment to global leadership have prepared her well for the role of ambassador.
“Dr. Gutmann’s leadership as ambassador is all the more important at this critical juncture in the U.S.’ relationship with our European allies, especially Germany, amidst Russian aggression in Ukraine.
“Her confirmation today is also an incredible historic moment for the Gutmann family. Her father fled Nazi Germany in the 1930’s, and, in what is sure to be an extraordinary moment, she will return as an ambassador.”
