Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today released the following statement in light of Justice Stephen Breyer’s retirement:
“Justice Breyer has served on the Supreme Court with integrity and distinction. From his time working as Senate counsel and in the Department of Justice, he gained a pragmatic devotion to American democracy. He has authored thoughtful, measured opinions in support of a woman’s right to choose, civil and voting rights, the Affordable Care Act, and the First Amendment. Justice Breyer leaves a powerful legacy as a defender of good government that works for the people it represents. I will carefully consider the record of President Biden’s nominee for his replacement.”
