Charleston, WV – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV, both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $2,341,957 from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for several programs in West Virginia. This funding will support day report center service, police department body worn camera expansion, and school violence prevention.
“Keeping our communities safe is one of my top priorities. I’m pleased multiple organizations across West Virginia are receiving funds to support substance abuse training and school based education programs to help keep our fellow West Virginians safe while providing the necessary resources to address issues facing our communities. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for funding to help our communities combat the drug epidemic that has ravaged the Mountain State,” Senator Manchin said.
“Whether it’s increasing the safety of our children, improving the equipment of our law enforcement officers, or proving needed support to our day report centers, this funding is very important to our communities in West Virginia. I will continue to advocate on behalf of the resources our state needs to keep West Virginians safe and help our county and city governments operate at full efficiency,” Senator Capito said.

Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) FY21 Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Site-based Program:
- $900,000 for the Berkeley County Council: Berkeley County Day Report Center, Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Site-based Program
Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) FY21 Body-Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Program to Support Law Enforcement Agencies:
- $180,000 for the City of Charleston: Charleston Police Department Body Worn Camera Expansion Project
Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office School Violence Prevention Program:
- $499,989 – Mingo County Board of Education
- $487,329 – Calhoun County Schools
- $194,000 – County of Logan
- $80,639 – County of Upshur
