WASHINGTON (Jan. 21, 2022) – U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-N.M.) and Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.) are welcoming over $1 million in grant funding from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) across New Mexico.
These EDA planning investments support the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for each of the awarded entities. The CEDS process is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap for regional economies.
“I’m proud to welcome these investments that diversify and strengthen economies across New Mexico,” said Heinrich. “Combined with the continued relief from the American Rescue Plan, historic investments from the new Infrastructure Law, and forward-looking opportunities that New Mexico Democrats are fighting for in the Build Back Better Act, we are truly setting New Mexico on a true path towards recovery and long-term economic success.”
“These investments that I helped secure will help bolster New Mexico’s economy and help New Mexicans recover and rebuild from the pandemic,” said Luján. “These regional economic planning grants will help develop a robust economic ecosystem, leading to growth for our local communities and regional collaboration. The American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will help ensure economic opportunities for New Mexicans – and we are not done yet. Once the historic initiatives in the Build Back Better Act become law, New Mexicans will further benefit for decades to come.”
“I welcome these grants that will benefit and strengthen our communities across New Mexico from Santa Fe to Roswell,” said Leger Fernandez. “This influx of funding from the American Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure Law will help create the foundations upon which our communities can thrive. But our work is not done. We must continue our fight to pass the Build Back Better Act to support children, families, and small businesses across New Mexico.
“We must invest in an economy that works for all New Mexicans, and I am proud that these economic diversification grants will help spur growth in our district for years to come,” said Stansbury. “To help New Mexico families continue to recover from the pandemic, I will continue working hard to deliver smart investments that empower New Mexico’s small business owners and workers like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and work to pass the Build Back Better Act.”
