Ernst: Democrats Side with Biden Doctrine of Appeasement of Adversaries

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement after Senate Democrats blocked an effort to reinstate sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline:

“The United States maintains peace and protection at home through upholding alliances with partners around the world. Allowing the completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is a gift to Vladimir Putin and a national security threat for the United States. It gives Putin a powerful means to isolate Ukraine from a strong and reliable revenue source while entangling the energy sectors of our European allies with Russia. Today my Democratic colleagues sided with the failed Biden foreign policy doctrine of appeasement of American adversaries. Democrats’ refusal to stand up to Putin harms our ability to protect ourselves and support our partner, Ukraine.”

Background:
In an op-ed in Defense News last month, Senator Ernst outlined steps America should take to counter Russian aggression against Ukraine.

In an interview on Fox News Sunday at the Reagan National Defense Forum, Ernst stated that the United States should not allow Putin to move forward with the Nord Stream 2 pipeline as Russia continues escalating aggression against Ukraine.
