WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) delivered remarks on the Senate floor congratulating the North Dakota State Bison football team on their FCS Championship win over the Montana State Bobcats, highlighting the players’ academic successes in addition to their athletic successes. Excepts and the full speech are below.

“Great athletes are smart athletes. While they take the stage on ESPN on game days, it’s important to point out North Dakota State University’s athletic teams achieved a remarkable semester last fall with a 3.418 grade point average among all 427 student athletes,” said Senator Cramer.

“[NDSU] now has 17 football national championships in history. They’ve won their last 13 title game appearances. I mean it’s remarkable,” said Senator Cramer. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit.”

Senators Cramer and John Hoeven (R-ND) introduced a resolution to honor the NDSU Bison on their championship victory.

“I salute Dean Bresciani, the [NDSU] President, Matt Entz, the head coach, the entire coaching staff, the entire faculty, every student athlete, and every parent that got these student athletes to college. It’s a remarkable thing to represent this level of excellence. I join Senator Hoeven in saying Horns Up!” continued Senator Cramer.
