WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded a $625,000 grant to Summit County through the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s (BJA) Adult Drug Court and Veterans Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program. The funding will provide treatment and support for veterans and individuals with substance use disorders going through proceedings at the Summit County Court of Common Pleas.
“This much needed investment will help ensure veterans and other Ohioans with substance use disorder diagnoses receive the treatment and support they need to help rebuild their lives as they address the scourge of addiction,” said Brown.
DOJ funding will expand and enhance court services by providing participants broad family and interpersonal support assistance through a new, dedicated, court-based family counselor, administering financial support to participants for sober housing, and providing grief counseling for participants.
Funding from the Adult Drug Court and Veterans Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program is distributed to state and local governments to implement drug court programs and services. These services include coordination, drug court participant management, and recovery support aid. The program is designed to help nonviolent offenders and veterans with addiction.
