WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded a $75,000 grant to the Washington County Career Center (WCCC) for the WCCC’s Upgrade the HVAC Project. WCCC will enroll 25 workers/trainees and 36 students in the training program and help 24 workers/trainees and 33 students improve their skills by completing the program.
“This workforce development center will provide students and residents the training they need to pursue new opportunities and help meet the needs of the community and existing workforce,” Brown said. “This investment will have a significant economic impact in Washington County and help workers secure jobs in emerging industries.”
WCCC will use the funding to update equipment in its HVAC lab to provide high-quality instruction to trainees and students. WCCC will purchase air conditioners, heating systems, refrigeration units, and additional equipment to better serve new and current technicians so they can meet the job demands for future and current HVAC workforce needs.
In addition to the $75,000 grant from ARC, other local funds will provide $33,695 to bring the total funding amount to $108,695.
ARC is an economic development agency of the federal government. It has a mission to build community capacity and strengthen economic growth in the Appalachian region.
