WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $7,500,000 million Rural Development Investment loan to Frontier Power Company in Coshocton. These funds will be used to connect 400 consumers, and build and improve 119 miles of powerline. This loan also includes $126,778 in smart grid technologies.

“Rural Ohioans face unique challenges in getting the power they need to keep the lights on,” said Brown. “This investment provides the Frontier Power Company with the resources it needs to ensure Southeast Ohio has access to the power needed to attract and create jobs.”

USDA’s Rural Development Investment program provides grants and loan guarantees to help create jobs, support economic development and provide essential services. Funding helps agricultural producers and cooperatives improve the effectiveness of their operations.

Brown has been a leader for Ohio’s rural communities, fighting to secure crucial funding for USDA grant and loan programs. He is the first Ohioan to serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee in more than 50 years.
