U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) released the following statement after voting against Chris Magnus to be the next commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

“It is clear that Chris Magnus is the wrong choice for CBP commissioner and I couldn’t vote for him today. Magnus has refused to admit we have a crisis on our southern border, has a record defending sanctuary cities and was a vocal critic of President Trump’s successful immigration policies that are so badly needed today. The hardworking men and women of the CBP will not be well served with Magnus at the helm, and I do not believe he will stem the continued crisis on our southern border. Unfortunately, I expect he will execute President Biden’s disastrous immigration policies that are simply making matters worse.”

Inhofe has worked tirelessly to strengthen our position at the southern border and combat the Biden administration’s failed leadership on immigration.

On November 3, 2021, Inhofe re-introduced legislation to fully fund the border wall.

On March 24, 2021, Inhofe introduced a resolution to simply and plainly state that it is the Sense of the Senate that the current influx of migrants at the southern border of the United States constitutes a crisis. Despite the simplicity of the resolution, it was blocked by Senate Democrats.

On March 18, 2021, Inhofe re-introduced the Asylum Abuse Reduction Act, legislation that would address immigration loopholes to strengthen the integrity of the asylum process to ensure that it is only used by individuals who are genuinely seeking asylum.

Inhofe has cosponsored a number of other bills to address the crisis at the border, including The Accountability Through Electronic Verification Act, Sarah’s Law and The Stop Greenlighting Driver Licenses for Illegal Immigrants Act,
