WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) joined Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC), Tom Cotton (R-AR), John Cornyn (R-TX), and Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in introducing the Protect American Taxpayer Dollars from Illegal Immigration Act — legislation to prevent payments for legal settlements for illegal immigration. Under the Protect American Taxpayer Dollars from Illegal Immigration Act, no federal funds, including money from the Judgment Fund, could be spent to enrich illegal immigrants at the expense of hardworking American taxpayers.

“North Dakota families and businesses are struggling with inflation and skyrocketing costs on everything from gas to groceries because of Joe Biden’s spending policies, and now the President wants to hand out hundreds of thousands of dollars to illegal immigrants. The Biden Administration still refuses to even acknowledge the crisis at our southern border. Our Border Patrol is already overwhelmed. The last thing we need is another incentive for more migrants to come here illegally. Our bill prevents hard-earned taxpayer dollars from going to absurd settlements for immigrants who didn’t even come here legally,” said Senator Cramer.

Despite the crisis consuming our southern border, President Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) wants to give out payments of $450,000 per person to illegal immigrants who broke our laws, came here illegally, and put their children’s lives at risk. If successful, President Biden’s DOJ could pay out hundreds of millions of dollars to illegal immigrants while at the same time, hardworking American taxpayers are struggling under Democrat’s reckless tax and spending policies.

Last month, Senator Cramer helped introduce an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022 to block President Biden’s reported plan to provide $450,000 settlement payments for illegal immigrants.

Senators Cramer, Tillis, Cotton, Cornyn, and Leader McConnell are joined by Senators James Risch (R-ID), Jim Inhofe (R-OK), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), John Boozman (R-AR), Josh Hawley (R-MI), Lindsay Graham (R-SC), Steve Daines (R-MT), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Mike Lee (R-UT), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), and James Lankford (R-OK) as original co-sponsors of the bill.
