WASHINGTON, DC – Following reports of a deadly clash after Azerbaijani troops launched an attack on Armenia’s eastern border, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement:
“I am deeply troubled by reports of Azerbaijan’s attacks on Armenian troops, especially the loss of life. Azeri aggression into Armenian territory is unacceptable.
“While I welcome the news of a return to the ceasefire agreed to in November of 2020, it is well past time to bring an end to this conflict and prevent senseless violence.
“The international community, including the U.S. State Department and the OSCE Minsk Group, must do more to ensure a lasting, durable peace in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“We cannot ignore unilateral aggression meant to redraw borders.”
